Turmeric Basil Rice

This colourful turmeric basil rice is packed with punchy flavour and takes next to no time to make. Pairs well with grilled fish and roasted chicken and is so delicious you'll be eating it straight out of the pot!

Turmeric Basil Rice

Serves 3


  • 1.5 cups white jasmine rice

  • 1/4 cup olive oil

  • 1 medium yellow onion, sliced

  • 4 garlic cloves, chopped

  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped

  • 2 teaspoons ground turmeric

  • 1 teaspoon curry powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne

  • 1/4 cup coconut aminos

  • 1/2 cup chicken broth

  • 1/3 cup chopped basil, roughly chopped

  • Salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste

  • Chili flakes, to taste


  1. Cook rice according to package instructions.

  2. Heat olive oil in a saute pan over medium-high heat. Add onion, season with salt and pepper, and cook for 2-3 minutes.

  3. Stir in turmeric, curry, and cayenne. Add bell pepper and garlic; cook for 2 minutes. Add coconut aminos; cook for 1 minute.

  4. Add cooked rice, chicken broth, basil, salt, pepper and chili flakes. Cook on high for 1 minute, until rice is well coated and thoroughly heated.

  5. Serve garnished with chili flakes.
